Exercise: Enforce model security
Important
A virtual machine (VM) containing the client tools you need is provided, along with the exercise instructions. Use the button to open the VM. A limited number of concurrent sessions are available - if the hosted environment is unavailable, try again later.
In this exercise, you'll update a predeveloped data model to enforce security. Specifically, salespeople at the Adventure Works company should only be able to see sales data related to their assigned sales region. You learn how to:
- Create static roles
- Create dynamic roles
- Validate roles
- Map security principals to semantic model roles
When you finish the exercise, end the lab to close the VM. Don't forget to come back and complete the knowledge check to earn points for completing this module!

To complete this exercise on your own computer, you need a Microsoft Fabric license. See Getting started with Fabric for details of how to enable a free Fabric trial license.
You also need a Microsoft school or work account to do this. If you don't have one, you can use the M365 Developer Program.
