How can I delete data associated with my old "Classic Storage" account?

Prior to the Classic Storage service's deprecation, we had a couple TB of data (blob files containing database logs, etc...) sitting in an Azure Classic Storage account. We archived this data in a StorageV2 account back in August, so no longer need to keep the original blobs. According to the documentation, "The data will be preserved", but we will "no longer be able to manage data in your classic storage accounts through Azure Service Manager".

Given all of this, how do we now delete the data from our old Classic Storage account?

    I understand that you would like to delete data associated with my old "Classic Storage" account.

    To achieve this:

    • Navigate to the list of your storage accounts in the Azure portal.
    • Use the filter to identify classic storage accounts by setting the filter field to Type, the operator field to Equals, and the value field to microsoft.classicstorage/storageaccounts.
    • In the Azure portal, search for Disks (classic), OS Images (classic), or VM Images (classic) to display classic disk artifacts.
    • Select the disk artifact you want to delete and view its properties.
    • Click the Delete button to remove the disk artifact.
    • Navigate to the classic storage account containing the blobs.
    • Access the blob containers and delete the blobs manually.
    • Once all data and artifacts are deleted, you can delete the classic storage account itself from the Azure portal.

    Hi Kojo D,
    We deprecated the management of classic storage accounts through Azure Service Manager (ASM) on August 31, 2021. Classic storage accounts will be fully retired on August 31, 2024. All data in classic storage accounts must be migrated to Azure Resource Manager storage accounts by that date.

    • To delete the data from your old Classic Storage account now, you will need to contact Azure Support directly. 
    •   If you have a support plan and you need technical help, create a support request in the Azure portal.
