Hello, I hope everyone is well. We configured the "auto-shutdown" for a Linux server. Now, when we go to power it on, we receive "virtual machine agent status is not ready". We get a timeout when attempting to connect to the local ip address of the nic. When we attempt to use Bastion is states the connection is not stable. I am not sure what steps we could perform to access the server. Any thoughts on additional troubleshooting steps we could take to get this server back online? Thank you

Once try to restart your VM from portal

try to check connect to the VM using the Azure Serial Console

Please make sure that Network Security Group rules allow inbound connections on the appropriate ports, such as SSH for Linux.

You can also use Boot Diagnostics to view the VM console output for any errors during boot and logs

Hi FunMum,
Actually, before providing the solution, I needed to confirm if it's connected to your VM network. That's why I reverted my comment. I wanted to verify it in my lab environment first. Now that I have tested it, everything is working as expected, so you can try it now.
In the Azure portal, go to the Serial Console. If you know how to access the Serial Console, log in directly with your credentials. If you're unsure where the Serial Console is located, please refer to the image below.

After that you can use the below command to make up the network interface up

sudo ip link set eth0 up sudo ip link set eth1 up

To verify the status of up or down use this command ip a

Looks like it came back up with no problems except for this and it still says unstable

Above is how it came up, I didn't run the sudo ip link set eth0 up

It's down actually as per your screenshot are you able to connect VM instead serial console login please check try to login from local or else cloud shell let me know if not able to login, then try this network interface up command and then login actually that error message might be related issue other issue are you using any extension for this VM ?

This didn't work as the OS of this server is SUSE Linux. When I get the commands to install the Azure agent, there are a lot of errors. It may be better to rebuild.

The article has Ubuntu commands, we are using SUSE. We may just rebuild the server as trying to install the agent returns a bunch of errors.

Could please you look into this document there is extension SUSE linux extension need to install python 2 by default it is saying not installed we need to install using below
To install Python 2, because of this issue cause might please run one of the following sample commands based on your machine

Red Hat, CentOS, Oracle: yum install -y python2

Ubuntu, Debian: apt-get install -y python2

SUSE: zypper install -y python2

And here extension version is supported 4.0 and you're using that version 4.1.16.0 is not supported showing as per previous screenshot
Could you please refer the document for installation and let me know

Yeah that is part of the issue, I get the following. Should I remove the network card and add it again? I am not able to ping with the network interfaces up

Yeah, FunMum you can before making any changes, make sure to note down the current network settings, including IP addresses, DNS, and any custom configurations. Once you've re-added the network interface, confirm that the VM is able to connect to the network and that everything is working as it should. After that, do a thorough test to ensure you can ping the VM, access it via SSH, and that all services are running properly.
