Hi @Joe Pokrifka ,

OneNote will automatically recognize the link when you type something like "http(s)://xxx.xxx".

You won’t see this option for a link created automatically by OneNote. To remove this kind of link, choose Edit Link and change the Text to display to be descriptive text instead of the URL. For instance change it from https://www.google.com to "Google". After that, you should be able to right-click the link and remove it.

doesn't really addess situation... I was actually trying to document a URL pattern and didn't want the example URL to be a hotlink... I worked around it by creating a slightly invalid URL like ""https:// <default host>:44301/sap/bc/ui5_ui5/ui2/ushell/shells/abap/FioriLaunchpad.html?sap-client=<desired client>&sap-language=EN" ... as long as I put a space after '//', then it doesn't automatically turn into a hot link... but I really couldn't figure any other way to stop that hotlink...

Yes, this is a work around that you type the invalid URL so the URL will not be automatically recognized. In my experience, this is by design and there is no interface to turn off automatic URL-hyperlink transformation. You can provide your requirement to Microsoft via File >> Feedback. This is not really a workaround which means it is not a valid answer. If you modify the link text in any way, it will no longer work as copy/paste, which is needed for the following scenario.

What if you are pasting in a link to a GitHub repository? You need the reader to be able to select the link text (without going to the link) so they can then paste it into their coding environment and clone the repository. Once the text becomes a link, it is very difficult to select just the text without going to the link. Sure, maybe you can select the space right before the text and manage to copy it, but then you have a space, and not the link text.

And please, don't go down the "just edit the link and copy the path from the dialog" path. While it might be a workaround, it makes me throw up a bit to think about people having to do that.

And sure, you could use your keyboard and manage to select just the text. But again, gag.

Seems to me the original question is still not answered: "why does the feature to 'remove link' get disabled from OneNote page"?
