Pivot Graph Series Color Changes for Previously Set Data Series

I have a Pivot Chart that shows Red/Yellow/Green metrics.

I have set the series colors as appropriate for each series. On the occasion that data conditions result in the absence of one of the series...(for instance there are no Red items), this series is dropped from the Pivot Chart. Later, when the data conditions include Red items, that series no longer retains the Red Fill color setting... it defaults to the template colors.

Is there any way to permanently set the colors for each series so that this doesn't happen?

    Hi,

Yes, you can set the colors for each series in a Pivot Chart to ensure that they are retained even when a series is temporarily absent from the data. Here's how you can do this:

    1. Select the Pivot Chart to activate the Chart Tools on the Excel ribbon.
    2. Go to the "Design" tab under the Chart Tools.
    3. In the "Type" group, click on the "Change Chart Type" button.
    4. In the "Change Chart Type" dialog box, select the desired chart type (for e.g, column, bar, line) that you're using for your Pivot Chart.
    5. Once you have selected the chart type, click on the "Series" tab in the dialog box.
    6. In the "Series" tab, you will see a list of all the series in your Pivot Chart.
    7. Select the series for which you want to set a specific color.
    8. Click on the "Format" button next to the series list. This will open the "Format Data Series" pane on the right side of the Excel window.
    9. In the "Format Data Series" pane, go to the "Fill & Line" section.
    10. Under the "Fill" section, choose the desired fill color for the series. You can pick a specific color or use the "More Colors" option to customize the color.
    11. Repeat steps 7 to 10 for each series in your Pivot Chart, setting the desired fill colors for each one.
    12. Once you have set the colors for all the series, click on the "Close" button to close the "Format Data Series" pane.

    Best Regards.

    Hi,

In my opinion, you can save as the template and then record the macro to apply the Template.

Go to Design- Change Chart Type- Select the Templates Chart you need:

I believe that i found the answer.... Within the Pivot Table, for the RYG Value, set the Field Setting/Layout & Print/Show Items with no Data option to YES.

This forces the Pivot to always include RYG data series. The RYG color values in chart can be set...and because they are always present in the pivot, the color coding is always retained.
