Outlook Error: 'The data in your envelope has been lost, but your document is still available'

Hello everyone,

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Microsoft Word 2007 (as the email editor). I recently encountered the following error message while working with Outlook:

"The data in your envelope has been lost, but your document is still available."

This message appeared only once. I clicked Yes on the dialog box, and then after closing and opening outlook(which was in a stuck state) it started working properly.

Even though this error occurred only once, I am curious to know what might be the cause since such as an error from outlook is quite unusual.

We have checked online but not getting any leads.

My Setup:

Microsoft Outlook 2010 configured with POP3 with Gmail as both the incoming and the outgoing servers.

Microsoft Word 2007 is set as the email editor.

Operating system: Windows 10.

In event viewer checked for logs, found event ID 300 with same description "A fatal error has occurred in Microsoft Outlook. The data in your envelope has been lost, but your document is still available."

Questions:

  1. What might have caused this error message?
  2. Are there any steps I can take to prevent this error from occurring in the future?

Any insights or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi @Researcher

    Welcome to our forum!

What might have caused this error message?

    Here are the possible causes:

    1. Compatibility Issues: Using Microsoft Outlook 2010 with Microsoft Word 2007 as the email editor might cause compatibility issues, especially on a Windows 10 system.
    2. Corrupted Temporary Files: Sometimes, temporary files used by Outlook and Word can become corrupted, leading to errors like the one you experienced.
    3. Add-ins or Extensions: Certain add-ins or extensions in Outlook can sometimes cause conflicts or errors.
    4. POP3 Configuration: Issues with the POP3 configuration or the way emails are being fetched from Gmail might also contribute to such errors. Maybe you can check if the pop configuration is OK by going to File>Account Settings>Account Settings>Choose your account, Change.

Are there any steps I can take to prevent this error from occurring in the future?

Here are the steps you may take:

    1. Update Software: Ensure that all your software, including Outlook, Word, and Windows, are updated to the latest versions and service packs.
    2. Check Add-ins: Disable any unnecessary add-ins in Outlook to see if the error persists. You can do this by going to File > Options > Add-ins and managing the COM Add-ins.
    3. Create a New Profile: Sometimes, creating a new Outlook profile can resolve persistent issues. You can do this by going to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add.
    4. Repair Office Installation: Use the built-in repair feature to fix any issues with your Office installation. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, select Microsoft Office, and choose Change > Repair.

    Hope it helps!
