Connect Microsoft Teams external SIP infrastructures to enable SIP calls

Hi,

I found misleading information about SIP redirections of calls to Microsoft Teams.

I have a SIP infrastructure able to receive and handle calls from the PSTN or other SIP endpoints. I need to redirect some of these calls to Microsoft Teams users. Is it necessary to set up a SBC in order to do so, or are there other ways?

    As far as I know, whether you need to set up a Session Border Controller (SBC) to redirect calls to Microsoft Teams users depends on your specific needs and existing phone system configuration.

    1. Direct routing with SBC: If you need to redirect calls from an external phone system (such as PSTN) to Teams users, you usually need to configure an SBC for direct routing. The SBC acts as an intermediary, connecting the external phone system with Teams.
    2. Internal call forwarding without SBC: If your needs are limited to call forwarding within Teams (for example, from one Teams user to another Teams user), you don't need an SBC. You can configure call forwarding settings directly in the Teams admin center or using PowerShell.
    3. Use Teams auto attendants and call queues: You can also use the auto attendant and call queue features of Teams to manage and redirect calls. These features allow you to set up complex call routing rules without using an SBC.
