Hi,

I have three computers in my home Wi-Fi (including mine) and we are all sharing a same Wi-Fi network. Computer A, computer B and computer C. On my computer A, i created a folder name "Data". the intention is to store the whole of our data in computer A as it has 5 tb of hard disk space.

now inside this Data folder we have 2 other folders namely "data of computer B " and " data of computer C". Until now, we are sharing this folder "Data" and its subfolders on all the other computers i.e. computer B and computer C without any restriction .

but due to some issues I want that folder namely "data of computer C" can only be access by computer C and not by computer B. so, for that I remove everyone from the sharing, advance sharing and security of this particular folder i.e. "data of computer C".

due to this computer B can only use "data of computer B" and not "data of computer C" which solves half of my problem .

But now the major problem part. how can i give exclusive rights to computer C to use "data of computer C" as i cannot find my workgroup name .

i even restarted all of my computers but workgroup name is not visible .

Please help me out . did i forgot to start any service or am i missing anything .

    Hello

Thank you for posting in Q&A forum.

Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

    1. Ensure that all PCs are set to the same workgroup name.

You can check and change the workgroup name by going to Control Panel > System and Security > System, then clicking on Change settings under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings. In the System Properties window, go to the Computer Name tab and click Change.

    1. Make sure that network discovery is enabled on all PCs.

Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change advanced sharing settings and turn on Network discovery and File and printer

    1. Ensure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled.

Go to Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings. Right-click your network connection, select Properties, then click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties. In the Advanced settings, go to the WINS tab and select Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

    1. Check that the firewall settings are not blocking network discovery and file sharing.

You can do this by going to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Defender Firewall > Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall and ensuring that File and Printer Sharing and Network Discovery are allowed.

    1. Ensure that the network profile is set to Private on all PCs.

This can be done by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Status and clicking on Change connection properties. Set the network profile to Private.

    1. Restart Network Services:

    • Sometimes, restarting network services can help. Open Services (type services.msc in the Run dialog), and restart the following services:

    • Function Discovery Provider Host

    • Function Discovery Resource Publication

    • SSDP Discovery

    • UPnP Device Host

I hope the information above is helpful.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Daisy Zhou
