Hi there,

When trying to refresh our AZURE Analysis Services models - we have been getting the error "Unable to sync model X for server X upgrade to standard pricing tier" User's image

We are currently on the basic pricing tier B1 , and we only have 2 models / databases, each well under 1 GB. I have checked metrics in the AZURE portal the QPU and Memory usage seem perfectly normal / within range. The only thing I thought that might be the issue is the number of connection requests count was 20 at many points in time and Analysis services doesn't allow more than 10 connections by default: User's image

I have increased the concurrent connections to the data source limit to well over 20 in both our AZURE and on premise Analysis services - as data is feed from on premise to AZURE :

Has anyone ever experienced this issue, and what has been done to diagnose / resolve? We really don't want to upgrade to the standard Tier unless absolutely needed, as there is no way of reverting back to basic tier.

The only thing we can think of that may have changed is that over the last year is, that staff have been using a lot of excel spreadsheets that connect to data in the Cubes in the on premise Analysis services, but none of these spreadsheets are connected to the AZURE Analysis services.

Any Ideas?

Cheers

    Hi DS87 ,

Welcome to Microsoft Q&A platform and thanks for posting your query here.

Based on the information you provided, it seems that you are experiencing issues with refreshing your Azure Analysis Services models due to an error message "Unable to sync model X for server X upgrade to standard pricing tier". Y

One possible reason for this issue could be that the number of connection requests count is exceeding the default limit of 10 connections in Azure Analysis Services. You have already increased the concurrent connections to the data source limit to well over 20 in both your Azure and on-premises Analysis Services, which is a good step.

However, it is also important to note that the basic pricing tier has some limitations, such as a maximum of 3 query processing units (QPUs) and a maximum of 1 GB of memory. If your models are complex and require more resources than the basic pricing tier can provide, you may need to upgrade to the standard pricing tier.

To diagnose and resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check the logs and metrics for your Azure Analysis Services to identify any issues or errors that may be preventing the models from syncing. You can use the Azure Monitor to view the logs and metrics.
    2. Check the resource utilization of your Azure Analysis Services to ensure that you are not exceeding the limits of the basic pricing tier. If your models require more resources than the basic pricing tier can provide, you may need to upgrade to the standard pricing tier.
    3. Check the connection requests count and ensure that it is not exceeding the limit of 10 connections. If it is, you can increase the concurrent connections to the data source limit to a higher value.
    4. Consider optimizing your models to reduce the resource requirements. You can use tools such as the Analysis Services Optimization Tool to optimize your models.

In summary, the issue with syncing your Azure Analysis Services models could be due to a number of reasons, such as exceeding the default limit of 10 connections or exceeding the resource limits of the basic pricing tier. You can try the above steps to diagnose and resolve the issue.

Hope it helps. Kindly accept the answer by clicking on Accept answer button. Thankyou
