Hi -

We are in the beginning phases of upgrading Microsoft Exchange environment and wanted to know the CAL license required, if any. We currently have Exchange 2016 Mailbox server and two Edge Transport servers role running on Standard licenses. Our users only access webmail through our designated jumpboxes (5 devices), meaning that they will have to vpn into one of the five devices to access webmail. What's the required CAL license for this type of access, if any?

Thanks

Paul S.

    Hi, @Paul Siso

Depending on your current environment configuration, you will need a Client Access Licence (CAL). Every Exchange client that uses a mail server must have a CAL. You have two options, the user CAL or the device CAL.

Given that your users access webmail through five specified devices, you can select the device CAL, which will cover all five devices.

More information can be found Client Access Licenses (CAL) & Management Licenses | Microsoft Volume Licensing
