Adding Teams editing in specific channels without allowing it in personal chats.

Hello All,

For industry compliance, we have message editing and deletion disabled for our user base within local chat messaging. We do however use Channels for company announcements, promotions, and more. We currently have these options disabled in our organization default, and would like to keep it that way, but allow users to edit/delete posts they have made to our company-wide channels. Our problem is that the global default is overriding the permissions we have set on our channels for users to edit/delete messages. Has anyone successfully setup a policy for editing/deleting messages ONLY on posts made in channels, without the policy changing the rules for chats amongst employees?

    Hi @kastenjc

The official documentation states: Messaging policies are used to control which chat and channel messaging features are available to user.

This means that if you configure this policy for a user, the settings in the policy will apply to both normal chats and channel chats, which is by design in Teams.

If you want to set up your channel independently from your normal chat settings, you can send a feedback directly to Microsoft Feedback to add it in future updates.

Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback. With requirements like this increase, the problem may well be released in the future.

Thanks for your understanding and support.
