1) cmd in administrator's mode allows me to set the text and background color: Windows-11 Pro 22H2 cmd as a user gives me a tabbed window and does not allow me to change the text and background colors: How I change the text and background colors as a user? 2) cmd as a user gives me a tabbed window. A) how do I stop this behavior and get a single windows as I get with Administrator cmd shell? B) the "+" gives me a new Power Shell. I can not begin to express you absolutely OBNOXIOUS this is. How do I force the tabs to open the same cmd shell as the original and NOT SOME OTHER PROGRAM?

Interesting: I have W-11 Pro 22H2 on my system (as a virtual machine) and it still pulls up the legacy method. I have all updates disabled. On one of my customer s with W11-Pro 22H2 that I had been working on, this behavior did not happen till after an update.

I was trying to launch Powershell with -WindowStyle Hidden and Terminal was popping up. I don't understand why MS did this. Maybe if a user launched cmd.exe or Powershell.exe without any parameters, that would be ok.

I was doing some programming on a customer's machine. I needed three independent cmd.exe's open at once so I could see and do things independently. When the tabbed console popped up, I might have taken MS's name in vain. I almost melted down when a "+" opened up a Power Shell. MS's ears should be ringing for a few days. Power Shell has its uses, but NOT for what I was doing.

I also like to set the background to white and the text to different colors for user and Admin shell, so I can easily tell them apart without having to hunt them down on the decorations.

I also noticed that Windows Explorer now has tabs too, like Linux's Thunar. Convenient for somethings but a pain in the neck for others. Luckily, I can still open an independent Windows Explorer with <win><E>. So I have a choice with Windows Explorer.

Oh guess what, you can right click on a console tab and select "Duplicate Tab" to avoid a new Power Shell.

System > For Developers > Terminal

Choose "Windows Console Host" for reverting to Windows typical behavior!

I would certainly not consider this a feature!
