How to migrate large Sybase database using SSMA for Sybase

We are on Sybase/SAP ASE database of various sizes the larges one contains about 1TB of data. We are testing the migration it to on-premise MS SQL Server 2022 Linux, using SSMA for Sybase.

Our concern is to move the full data during the downtime which is at max 4 hours. We have segregated the tables to do a kind of partial migrations before cut off for historical of non-critical data but still quite large amount of data is available for real time migration. I have two questions:

  1. Do we have any mechanism to partially migrate data based on some date column? (per table)
  2. What is the suggested solution or way for data migration for large tables using SSMS?

Thanks

    Hi @Tahir Khalil,

Do we have any mechanism to partially migrate data based on some date column? (per table)

It doesn't seem to be possible with the SSMA tool.

You can set project conversion, migration, and type mapping options. I didn't find way to base in the date column to migrate.See Migrating SAP ASE databases to SQL Server

What is the suggested solution or way for data migration for large tables using SSMS

Migrating from large Sybase to SQL Server is a complex process, you may also consider using ETL tools such as SSIS.

Remember to back up the database before the migration.
