I can't set up a connection to the database when installing VMM

Hello!

When installing VMM on the first host, I cannot connect to the database if I specify the MS SQL cluster name.

As indicated in paragraph number 8 of this instruction

8.In Database configuration, specify the database to use for VMM. The database should be highly available and deployed in a separate failover cluster. This dialog appears if VMM isn't clustered or if it's clustered but not using Always On Availability Groups. Specify the cluster name.

But, if I simply specify the name of the first node instead of the cluster name (which is incorrect according to the instruction), this step of the installation is successful.

Please tell me what could be the cause of this error?

When setting up a connection to a database, should you use Cluster Name or Listener?

Both nodes are SQL Server 2022 Standard edition.

I assume you are creating the VM, cluster and listeners in Azure. if that's the case please follow this article since you have to create a load balancer and run a Powershell script on the VMs in order to make the virtual IPs reachable
