Experiencing installation failures with SQL Express 2022 on Windows 11 Enterprise. The installation appears to work until nearly the end, where it encounters issues related to x_cpu64 type files. The installation completes but reports a failure with a Stack Overflow error.

The SQL Database Service fails to load/start and times out. Attempts to start it directly from <instance>\MSSQL\Binn\sqlservr.exe result in an error indicating that the server installation is corrupt or has been tampered with (unknown package ID). Attempts to repair the installation also fail, stating that the server was never correctly set up.

Multiple uninstalls and purges of file locations, registry entries, and configurations have been performed, with the same issue replicating across 5 or 6 attempts, even with different configuration options.

    Hi @Laidlaw, Jason [EMR/MSOL/ABDN]

failures with SQL Express 2022 on Windows 11 Enterprise Multiple uninstalls and purges of file locations, registry entries, and configurations have been performed, with the same issue replicating across 5 or 6 attempts, even with different configuration options.

Looks like you have done multiple tries. Please do clean up completely and try reinstalling it.

See this article that can help you to clean up properly.

Consider that you are installing on Windows 11, please read this doc to troubleshoot a known issue related to system disk sector size greater than 4 KB before you try install again.

If still not work, please attach the error logs (Summary.txt file & Detail.txt file).
