powerbi on-premises data gateway

I am using azure mysql, however, if I need to access this database from powerbi, should I use a data gateway for "on-premises". As this database reside in the "same" cloud as the de powerbi service, I supposed that the could be connected without using a data gateway

    If your Azure MySQL database is publicly accessible, you should be able to connect to it from Power BI without using a data gateway. However, if your database is secured within a VNet or uses private endpoints, a data gateway might be necessary.
