Hello everyone I am trying to restore a database in SQL server using Azure Data Store but I cannot see the Restore option in my Azure Data Store studio. I even tried "Enabled Preview Feature" option How can I fix it or is there other version I should install. Thanks

I guess this could be because you are using the SQL Edge edition, and Azure Data Studio may not be geared up for support of Restore on Edge yet. Restore Database comes up as a preview feature in my Azure Data Studio (on Windows for regular SQL Server.) But you can always restore a database like this: RESTORE DATABASE mydb FROM DISK = 'yourpath' If the backup comes from elsewhere or you want to restore the backup under a different name, you need to add the WITH MOVE clause to specify the location of the database files. At this applies to "regular" SQL Server. I have not worked with the Edge version, but I would expect the RESTORE command to be the same, at least for the basic stuff.

I have OLTP backup file of adventureworks database which I want to add in azure database system. Is this the query you mentioned above, I need to write in "New Query" area?

Yes. And this case, you need to use the WITH MOVE option. I did not include the details in my first post, in order not to overwhelm you with information you may not be in need of.

In this case you need to run two preparatory steps. The first is to run:

EXEC sp_helpdb 'somedatabase'

Copy the contents of the first row in the filename column to the query window. Strip out the last component of the path. What you want is the name of the directory where the database file is located.

Next action to do is to run this:

RESTORE FILELISTONLY FROM DISK = 'pathtobackup'

You should make note of the names in the first column. These are the logical name of the files.

Now you can run this:

RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks FROM DISK = 'pathtobackup' WITH MOVE 'logicalname1' TO 'dbfilepath/AdventureWorks.mdf', MOVE 'logicalname2' TO 'dbfilepath/AdventureWorks.ldf'

Here logicalname1 is the name in the first row from RESTORE HEADERONLY, and logicalname2 is the name on the second row. dbfilepath is the path you got from sp_helpdb.
