Azure File Sync Agent Setup on On-Premises Server Without Internet Access

Hello everyone,

I need assistance with setting up the Azure File Sync Agent on an on-premises VM running Windows Server 2022, which is domain-joined and no internet.

I’ve reviewed the Microsoft documentation, and it states that a basic internet connection is required to install and configure the Azure File Sync Agent. However, the challenge I’m facing is that the server in question is located in a DMZ environment and does not have internet access.

Could anyone advise on how to install and configure the Azure File Sync Agent in such a scenario? I need to ensure the files can sync with the Azure storage account despite the lack of internet connectivity on the server.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi AmitHaridas-9125,

After you install Azure File Sync in the server you must run the initial server registration. This establishes a trust relationship between Windows Server and Azure, to be used later to create server endpoints on the server representing the folders to be synchronized to Azure. That being said, for this to happen you need to ensure that the server is connected to the internet and that Azure is accessible, along some other requirements listed in Manage registered servers with Azure File Sync.
