Hello ,
I wants to renaming the Hybrid Azure autopilot that main goal using Powershell script.(will set serial number as computer name).

  1. is this renaming of Hybrid azure autopilot device possible or not ...if I rename manually the Hybrid autopilot device by its serial number.will it propagate properly to on Prem ad.AAD and Intune.
  2. I found that during autopilot two entries (with same device name one Azure ad another hybrid azure ad ) created in AAD ,is renaming created any conflict or issue.
  3. if manually renaming possible can i deploy the script from Intune to rename it,and it propagated to ad,aad and intune .

device will be deployed with domain join template so device name in prefix fixed string.

Thank
richkm

    1. Asked and answered at https://zcusa.951200.xyz/en-us/answers/questions/719080/is-renaming-of-hybrid-azure-ad-device-not-an-issue.html: "How it's deployed is irrelevant. Renaming the device locally, whether manually or via a script that runs locally, will rename the device and this will be propagated to AD, AAD, and Intune."
    2. No. The two objects are expected for this scneario.
    3. Yes, see #1.

This should automatically resolve itself once the AAD Connect syncs the object (I believe that's what triggers it to be cleaned up although is could be a combination of AAD Connect and the device itself communicating with AAD).

No, this is not going to cause any issues and is temporary.

If the renaming of Hybrid joined is supported by Microsoft why is it not part of the Intune Process, rather than an after thought , and as it stands unless you use a scripted option you end up with the Intune and AAD ID out of sync which requires more scripting , which is not Supported by Microsoft as far as I can determine

A couple of folks mention a script that they have used to (successfully) rename a HAADJ device and have this correctly synced to AD, AAD and InTune. So fare we haven't managed this and welcome access to this script which I cannot find anywhere - even though come comments post links, these do not show the actual script as far as I an see.

    Help anyone?
