I am working on an update to a Xamarin.Forms app In Visual Studio Community 2022 on a Windows 11 Pro machine.
I receive the following error when I try to archive the iOS project for distribution:
Cannot create an IOS archive 'XXXXXXXX.iOS'. Process cannot be executed on XMA server.
There was an error unzipping the file C:\VSArchives\2022-04-13\31a2aedc.zip: The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.
I have been working on this for almost a week and need a new vector of attack. Please share if you have any suggestions.
Things I have tried already (separately and combined):
The archiving error began when I implemented Facebook Login using the Plugin.FacebookClient, which btw worked great except for this. When I remove this NuGet package and rem out the dependent code my solution archives again.

Try to change the Archives location : Go to Tools -> Options -> Xamarin -> iOS Settings -> Archives location In VS, change the path to something shorter like C:\Foo.

Thank you. I tried this and it did not solve my issue. I am getting a zip file created in my archive folder, it looks like the issue is unzipping the file on the XMA server. Dose that suggest any other courses of action?
You could try archiving the release version on Visual Studio for Mac to check if this issue persists. In addition, can you unzip this 31a2aedc.zip file manually and check if there are any long-path files in it?

I have a similar issue and the error is caused from too long path inside zip file. In fact, setting a short path for the archive location, it doesn't affect the long path into zip.

Hello there. I have the same issue with Visual Studio 2022 for a while now and it's very urgent as I can't create a Xamarin Forms iOS archive anymore. So far I have worked around it by building an ipa package, but this process is also buggy. After building the project, the "Show ipa File" option is usually disabled. To fix this, you have to deselect and reselect "Build iTunes Package Archive (IPA)" in the iOS project options under "iOS IPA Options" every time. Then rebuild, and "Show ipa File" is active again. But most of the time the ipa file is corrupted, because the Transporter app on the Mac says that icons in certain sizes are missing. So the only way that works and puts together all the icons correctly is via "Archive", but this is broken now.

It sounds like you're running into a different problem than is being discussed in this thread. Please create a new thread with full details on what you're running into (version info, exact repro steps and symptoms, what you've already tried, etc.) to get help on your scenario.
Please post the actual text of your error message (code, anything else text based) rather than an image. Images lose information, cannot be cut & pasted (e.g. to search known issue databases), and can be difficult to impossible for many people to read.

I have this same problem too. For me its caused by the google maps plugin. It has a file path which is too long.
If there was a way to shorten the path to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\XamarinBuildDownloadCache, i could make it work
However for those building archives, even though it fails. If you go to your Mac and open Xcode. Under Windows=> Organizer you can see your archive and you can still publish it from there as a work around

When the problem is caused from too long path inside zip file, should be enough change the environment vars of TEMP folder. I solved my issue in this way.
Right-click My Computer > Properties. Click Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables. Select the TEMP variable and click Edit and put a short path, eg c:\tmp

Also I discovered my work around of publishing form XCode does not work :(
In my case I also changed the default 260 character path limitation.
Try to edit group policy:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Filesystem > Enable NTFS long paths.
In your place in a desperate attempt I would change C:\Temp\ to c:\t, you may need a few char to meet the goal...
Thanks for the tip. I set the Environment Variables "TEMP" and "TMP" to "C:\TMP". Bearing in mind that this is just a workaround, it helped me and the Archive Manager for the iOS Project is now working again.
Thanks for this tip but those these settings were set to long file name. So I guess the zip utility being used doesn't respect that maybe
I don't know what zip tool is being used here
The funny thing is that if i unzip the file using windows zip it unzips fine.
Must be the zip tool
