Deus ex machina

As I am sure a lot of people have heard, Kurt Vonnegut passed away yesterday. He is easily my favorite author of all time.

I still vividly remember reading Cat’s Cradle when I was a sophomore in high school and just being astonished by the unique combination of social commentary, black humor and science fiction. During their lifetime, I think on average most people read 2-3 books that change their point of view and even their life. Cat’s Cradle was the first such book for me.

I think the writers of a few of the currently popular serial sci-fi dramas could definitely learn a thing or two from Mr. Vonnegut – both the author and the character from Breakfast of Champions.

Rest in Peace Mr. Vonnegut. Hopefully where ever you are now is free of Ice-Nine.

I hope the place he left is also free of it.
