I'd like a PC, hold the Windows please

This is a great article.  When I saw Dell was offering a PC without Windows I went to the web site to find out how much money a person could actually save by purchasing a PC without Windows.  There was so much obsfucation I gave up.  Follow the link.  It is actually more expensive to buy a Dell PC without Windows than a PC with Windows.  You also won't get any support from Dell for the OS and drivers you'll have to install to make the thing usable.  Great deal [:D]

I order machines from Dell without Windows all the time. By default a server doesn't come with an OS unless you specify one.

This is a different story from desktop PCs, though, because Dell gets kickbacks for preinstalling software. Windows-free machines don't generate kickbacks to Dell, so they cost more.
