What makes Adobe think if I go download acrobat reader, I also would like to have the Yahoo toolbar installed?

I just installed the Adobe reader on a new machine, and I was very suprised and frustrated to find all of the additional software the installer attempts to load.  I am for the most part pretty good at selecting the components I want to install when loading new software, however I was in a a little bit of a rush.  I launch my browser and there is the Yahoo toolbar loaded up.  In addition the installer also tried to load another photo sharing type program.  Good grief!! 

People would blast Microsoft to the ends of the earth if we provided a download and install other vendors software in the background, I hope we do not have products that do the same thing.

I think this is a terrible practice and Adobe should be clear to users what software they are attempting to bundle with a download especially if it is not from Adobe.

On top of not wanting the Yahoo toolbar I am not able to uninstall it! I select the uninstall option hidden in the toolbar (it is not in add/remove programs <grrrr>), this takes me to a web page that asks me to tell why I want to uninstall. I click the uninstall button and I get a scripting error I can not seem to get around (access denied). I am waiting for someone to blame IE and tell me to download Browser X or install Linux to fix the problem. All because I wanted to read a PDF document! I am not having a good day, I hope you howver are having a better day than I am.

    Well... I guess thats what pays for your free software. If I could have a free Windows, I wouldn't mind having the Yahoo Toolbar too :-)

    Not sure whether it still works on the current version, but there is an article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base about uninstalling the Yahoo toolbar:

    (I thought that is kind of funny)

    Also, if you go to "Tools", "Manage addons", it should be possible to at least disable the toolbar. (If you have XPSP2).

    You can avoid it by using FTP to grab ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/7x/7.0/enu/AdbeRdr70_enu.exe. This 12MB download does not include the toolbar (last I checked).

    Just be thankful you don’t have Acrobat Professional... it takes annoying integration to the next level with its added toolbars to each office application (which have to be individually disabled in the registry) as well as the shell right click menu which I have yet to be able to disable.

    Well, you can choose not to install the toolbars in Office apps, and you cna remove them in the Acrobat Pro option in Add/Remove programs. It's called PDFMaker.

    I just updated my Adobe reader and got the Yahoo toolbar for 'free' even though I didn't want it.
    NOW I can't send ANY email attachments in any of my emails; Outlook Express 6, Hotmail, Juno on the Web, or even my web mail server provided through my ISP!!!

    Help? Anyone have a solution? I think the Yahoo toolbar (I also downloaded the Anti-spyware and ran it once) is the culprit.

    I have removed both of the above through the add/remove feature in Control panel.
