Am I getting old...finally?

Hi...

you all remember (if not you are in the middle of that time of your life. Then quit reading and come back in 15 years) the time when you had a wish but not the money nor the freedom to fulfill it?!?!?

For me this was a Yamaha XT 500. Something which I desired when I was around 16 to 17 years old and to be honest it has never gone away... this feeling. To be very open: After all it was a dull idea because the machine was known to be bullheaded. The engine was known to be - say - special. Something you could feel yourself directly because you had to start it anyway by means on a kick starter. Not only the wake up procedure after a long winter was legendary there were this special incidents that it started right away (only in the hot summer), you drove to the gas station and then - now the engine warmed up and a lot of people around to see the spectacular scene - it didn't start for an hour. Tearing apart your shoes was somehow normal (that bike needed new shoes just as fuel or oil). One of my friends even broke his leg by getting tired and not aiming exact enough to hit the kick starter.

Well, all that I would have gone through and I would have loved it I am sure.

Now, why this subject? Because I was surfing the web and since my neighbor just got a new motor cycle I thought a bit around me buying one. And there it was: Yamaha XT 660 R, characteristic design and none of the bullheaded features of its predecessor (and even with a electrical starter).

So I went to have a look and ... this makes me feel really old ... bought it. Today it is still an invest but I can effort the money. And yes, my mom will kill me (just to prevent that I am killed by an accident) but now she's a few hundred kilometers away and I have my own garage (I will take care that she will never see it. Oh, I have to tell my kids to shut up, too...)

I am sure we will have lots of fun together while still thinking it will never be so intense as it would have been... 20 years ago. Oh, boy...
