Support statement for Visual Basic 6.0 updated for Windows 7

I have been asked many times in the last few weeks about Windows 7 and VB6. The support statement has been updated to cover Windows 7 and the news is good.

Windows 7

Since the initial release of this support statement, the Windows 7 operating system has been announced.  This document has been updated to clarify Microsoft’s support for VB6 on Windows 7.

VB6 runtime will ship and will be supported in Windows 7 for the lifetime of the OS.  Developers can think of the support story for Vista being the same as it is for Windows 7.  However there are no plans to include VB6 runtime in future versions of Windows beyond Windows 7.

I have one strange problem running vb6 on Windows 7 beta. When I run two or more instances of vb6 (sp6) at a time and chose File->Make project in one instance and choose e.g. c:tempt1 as output directory this directory gets the preselected output directory in all running instances of vb6. So switch to another running instance of vb6 and choose File-Make project there and you will see that c:tempt1 is preselected. On WinXP and Vista each instance of VB6 keeps its own output directory.
