Upcoming IE Conferences and Events

One of the things I really like about my job is getting out to conferences and events where I can meet you guys. It’s a great opportunity to get feedback from you, and to learn more about our developers and users. It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know the IE Team. We’re really not a bunch of faceless developers, testers and PM’s.

In the past, we haven’t  announced what conferences and events we were attending, it was always kind of a surprise, but we are going to try and improve on that. Today, we put up a badge for Web Directions North, a really exciting conference that we’ll be attending. Now we won’t be making posts for every conference or event we’re going to be at, but we’ll try our best to make sure we provide you with links to them through the IE Blog.

In fact, the folks at Web Directions North have offered a $100 discount on registration fees to readers of the IE Blog. The conference is February 6th-10th in Vancouver, BC and promises to be a fantastic time. There will be some great speakers, like John Allsopp, Douglas Bowman, Dan Cederholm, Tantek Çelik, Joe Clark, Andy Clarke, Derek Featherstone, Kelly Goto, Aaron Gustafson, Adrian Holovaty, Molly Holzschlag, Jeremy Keith, Steffen Meschkat, Cameron Moll, George Oates, Veerle Pieters, Craig Saila, Dave Shea, Kaitlin Sherwood, Jared Spool.  Use the registration code “msp-wdn07” on the registration page to save $100 off the $895CDN registration fee.

Thank you. I will cancel the purchase of my SLR for this web conference. I am particularly excited about the food and drinks, and the 'free' laptop bag full of "goodies" It should be fun and maybe help me get around the  buggy standards support Firefox and the rest have. I always spend an extra week just working around poor support for modern web technologies in Firefox! I think this will help tremendously! Can the event be recorded with video camera?

It's funny the first 10 times. But now it's just plain boring. Give it up Goose. Starting to sound like an 8 year old.

Ok, so, when did the CSS border style of "inset" and "outset" get so horribly munged in IE? Normally I would never use the properties, but I had a need recently, mocked up in Firefox, tested in Opera/Safari, then got the surprise when I tested in IE (6 & 7!) What is with the "50%" offset/inset followed by "50%" solid? I'll resist moaning about the colors being wrong, but the outset/inset is definitely messed up! Internet explorer 7 is good, but it could still do with afew more features, when viewing pictures, there should be menu bar similar to that of winndows picture and fax viewer. and the ability to have more than one proxy server, where one is set to default, and the other are aditional proxy servers which are detected if the first proxy server is unlocatable. This feature is useful for people who use laptops and use multiple internet providers with different proxy settings.
