Things to keep in mind if you are working with a SharePoint site directly from the IIS manager

I was going through Joel Oleson's blog and ran across this article

https://blogs.msdn.com/joelo/archive/2007/01/02/relationship-between-the-iis-metabase-and-sharepoint-configuration-database.aspx

Which points out that certain settings (such as binding your web application to a specific IP) are not possible within the SharePoint Admin and that while you can apply this setting manually via the IIS admin interface you will need to back up the metabase, restart, and restore the IIS metabase to ensure the settings stick. Check the link for a much better explanation and additional considerations for the IIS metabase in Joel's article.

Thanks!
