IE8 Web Slices, Accelerators, ESPN, and eBay
Internet Explorer (IE) 8 has a number of cool features including Color-Coded Tabs that group together connected tabs, web slices, and accelerators. What is an accelerator? An accelerator allows you to quickly take an action based on highlighted text. What is a web slice? A web slice keeps you up-to-date on a particular piece of information in real-time.
Jon Box shows off this cool web slice from ESPN keeping him on top of the Cardinals score:
eBay has also taken advantage of both web slices and accelerators (visit https://ie8.ebay.com to see for yourself). By adding the eBay accelerator, you can highlight text on any page and search it on eBay. eBay web slices keep you up-to-date on auctions you might be tracking. Here’s a short how-to video from IE8.
