It's Alive!

We just published the RC bits for Windows 7!  More details to follow...

2009/04/30 11:55pm PDT - Update: I had fully intended on updating this post with tons of info, but alas, it was not to be. We had a ton of volume - more downloads were served today than we served during the beta release (up about 145%). While it wasn't a perfect day, I am really thankful we were able to get the Windows 7 RC bits into the hands of our subscribers well ahead of the general release next week. I believe we are in very good shape for tomorrow - so here is to an uneventful Friday!

For those of you who only heard about Windows 7 today - you should check out Windows Server 2008 R2 RC. It is the server product you know and love with the ability turn on all of the really snazzy Windows 7 UI elements.

I have a BizSpark MSDN subscription. I see the downloads are posted for Windows XP Mode Beta x86 and x64, however, they have not been made available to BizSpark. I believe this is an oversight – can you please correct this? [Julie says: take a look again. I think they fixed it yesterday. Sorry about that]

MSDN subcriber downloads site can't handle the load right now? I get the error "Sorry, we were unable to service your request." [Mike responds: We're seeing this error as well and working on it.  I'm posting in the forums at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msdnfeedback/threads.  Feel free to track updates there]

alive...with error?! Sorry, we were unable to service your request. For the latest headlines and to see what's new, visit the MSDN home page. Check out the various MSDN Developer Centers where you can find the latest product information, technical resources, and community offerings. Visit the MSDN Library for the latest technical articles, reference documentation, downloads, and more. But for the announced Windows 7 RC, you'd just watch this error message for pleasure. It is THE SERVICE that we MSDN subscribers should experience? Fix it as soon as possible. Please.

Only issue is that you can't get into the site because it is so busy. I was able to start the download but I couldn't get a key and now I eget the message Sorry, we were unable to service your request. So I guess I will have to wait until I get back from Vacation to install RC1. [Mike Responds: Cameron, if you have a Windows 7 Beta key from the beta release, this key will work with Windows 7 RC as well.  Sorry about the inconvenience.]

If you were able to get bits between the waves of demand, you can install and activate it later (within the 30 days), or if you happen to write down or export your Win 7 beta key (if you claimed one), it is the same key. There are 10 activations on each Win 7 beta key (on the same machine).

How do we place feedback with this build? The "Send Feedback" links no longer appear inside Windows, and the Connect site doesn't appear to have any other way to handle feedback. Is there a way to bring the "Send Feedback" feature back? [Chris responds: We don't manage any of the Connect information, but once signed in, this looks like where you need to go: https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=647 ]

I have found a bug in W7 RC which I was trying to report, but my live id account does not have permissions to report bugs. How do I get sufficient privileges? I'd like to add that I am MSDN subscriber and my w7 copy is legal :-) Kind Regards [Chris responds: We don't manage any of the Connect information, but once signed in, this looks like where you need to go: https://connect.microsoft.com/site/sitehome.aspx?SiteID=647 ]
