New Interoperability Content on MSDN

The Office Interoperability team is regularly updating the Learn Open Specifications and Interoperability page in the Open Specifications Developer Center with new topics focused around the Open Specifications. In particular, we’ve recently released a group of learning modules that direct you to content on MSDN, Channel 9, and other Microsoft web sites. Each learning module focuses on a specific topic. For instance, Interoperability 101: The Basics has links to two articles that explain what open specifications are and what technologies they cover. The Introduction to Office Open XML learning module deals exclusively with the basics of Microsoft Office interoperability.

The Learn Open Specifications and Interoperability page also provides links to articles discussing open specifications that Microsoft supports, such as ECMA 376 and ISO/IEC 29500. In addition, you’ll find information on binary file formats that Microsoft Office used to save data to. While these file formats have been superseded by Office Open XML, they’re still important in the world of interoperability.

Right now, the Learn Open Specifications and Interoperability page has a lot of links to information about Office interoperability. In the coming months, we also hope to post links to content dealing with other interoperability topics such as Exchange Server, SharePoint, and more. But for now, anyone that’s just getting started with interoperability or anyone wanting to learn the basics of Microsoft Office interoperability will find a lot of good material on the Learn Open Specifications and Interoperability page.
