Home Sweet Home

Occasionally I work from home, which I happen to be doing today. I'm actually much more productive at home as I can crank out work without many distractions. Plus I can walk over to the hangar and check on my parents and see what's going on with the P-12 or whatever. All of that and I get to watch aircraft fly around periodically. Just seconds ago one of my neighbors took off in his "new" T-6. What a beautiful aircraft which has been completely restored to factory new condition, complete with all the original radios and equipment. This is the same pilot that owned the L-39 I mentioned in an earlier post. Maybe I'll actually get a ride in the T-6 this time :). I often have a front row seat for aerobatics as pilots often practice their routines just east of my house.

So as you may have gathered, I live in an aviation community. We all share a paved and lighted airstrip and we have taxiways which parallel the roads in the community. I have a long commute to work everyday, but it's worth it for this. Before I worked at MS, I worked in downtown Seattle and I would fly my 1948 Stinson 108-3 to Boeing Field, then take a bus downtown. That was the life. If only Redmond had a runway, and if only I still had an airplane. I sold the Stinson just before I got the job at MS after being unemployed for about a year and half.

If you want to virtually visit where I live, just go to WN53 in Flight Simulator. Maybe if I have some time and can twist some arms, I will be able to make further improvements to the airport for FSX.

    Living at the airport can't be underestimated. Even my wife loves it. Getting home from a trip and raising the hangar door from the cockpit with a clicker is the ultimate luxury.

    Luscombe Pilot, feel free to link if you want. BTW, I was very close to buying a Luscombe last year. It was in really bad shape, non-airworthy and would have taken a lot of time to get up to decent quality. I realized my wife would probably never fly in it with me, and it would have taken too much time away from the P-12, so I passed on it. It sat in my hangar for about 9 months so at least it was dry and warm for a little while.
