Configuring OpsMgr with SCVMM 2008 – VMM Service Account

If your SCVMM and OpsMgr environments are distributed, it is important to make sure the virtual machine service runs under a dedicated domain account and not Local System. Otherwise, you will receive the following message when you try to specify the RMS in the VMM Administration Console:

The Virtual Machine Manager service does not have required credentials to access the Operations Manager SDK service on ‘servername-rms’.

Add the VMM service account as an Administrator on the Operations Manager server, and then try the operation again.

As the resolution states, you will need to add the VMM Service Account to the Management Group’s Administrator role otherwise you will not be able to complete the integration.

  On the server which hosts the RMS Role, add the VMM Service Account to the local administrators group OR whatever group you designated the OpsMgr Administrators during the installation of OpsMgr (SCOM).

  I don't know what the "VMM Service Account" is. How do I add it? In OpsMgr I only can add groups in the Administrators role. I don't understand how to solve this problem.

  I changed the VMM account from a computer account to a service account. I was able to successful integrate SCOM after the change, but now I cannot remotely connect to the console. I can connect when logged on to the VMM server locally. I receive the following error: You cannot access Virtual Machine Manager server VMMServer. ID:1604

  Reset the VMM Service to Local Service, add your account in User Roles to the Administrator Profile Type. Set the Service to use the service account again. Save and reboot the server. You're done.

  If you installed SC VMM using the System Account, just add the Computer Account of your SC VMM Computer to the local Administrators on your root management server.
