Mobile Client Software Factory - Community Technical Preview.

At the keynote at MEDC 2006 in Las Vegas there was a demo regarding the Mobile Client Software Factory.  Today I had a chance to look at the documentation and play a little bit with it for the first time.

(You can get to the download page from https://msdn.microsoft.com/practices/default.aspx?pull=/library/en-us/dnpag2/html/mcsflp.asp)

I was really impressed with the work that has been put into creating the reusable building blocks there and I strongly encourage ISVs to take a look at them. Some of the building blocks may be useful to you! My favorites are the Mobile Disconnected Service Agent block and the Orientation Aware Control.

Thanks to all the people that put effort into these building blocks!

I am not sure where to ask for this feature, so I think this may be as good a place as any.

For mobile development, I think one of the biggest things I find lacking is the ability to simulate a wireless (GPRS) connection over the emulator.

From the emulator you can enable and disable the GPRS connection (which is great) but if you want to truly simulate the application I think you need to be able to actually connect through this network.

I am not saying that you need to add a true GRPS connection.  Simulating the connection over the existing network would be fine (for now).  And if you were able to throttle the connection all the better.

    Anyway, just a suggestion!

    Thanks,
    Gary

One of Mobile Client Software Factory requiremetns for development is Visual Studio 2005.  If I have Visual Studio 6.0 on my PC, do I still need Visual Studio 2005?  If yes, do I need to uninstall Visual Studio 6.0?  Thanks.
