DVD Burning in Windows Vista Beta 2 CPP

We've learned that some of you are experiencing problems successfully burning Windows Vista to DVD. It turns out that this is most likely due to the fact that, in your haste to install Windows Vista, some of you are burning the DVD at faster rates than the system can handle ;) and the resulting file gets corrupted. There are few steps to try when you get a bad DVD burn.

First, are you using media appropriate for your drive? It’s important that if your DVD burner operates at 8x not to use 2x media. Improper media types will increase the likelihood of bad burns. Second, if your drive speed is adjustable with the software that came with your hardware, you should attempt to slow down the burning speed. In addition, it’s best not to have too many applications executing while burning is in progress. Third, drive manufacturers are constantly improving the firmware for those devices. We encourage you to visit your manufacturer’s website and download the latest firmware. We know of a nice little utility called CRC.exe (look for it online) that will check the integrity of any file on your local system, be it on physical media (such as a DVD) or an ISO file. (However, the media or file cannot be on a network drive or a mounted NTFS folder.)

To reiterate:

  • if your DVD burner operates at 8x do not use 2x media
  • if your DVD burner operates at 2x do not use 8x media
  • In general, writing a slower speed results in a greater likelihood of a correct disc. This is due to many factors, such as the system's ability to get the data to the device, the device's ability to keep the laser focused as the disc spins extremely fast, and the quality of the media being recorded to. If in doubt, use a slower recording speed!

I may need to burn my own DVD since the DVD you sent me will not accept the Product Key you sent with it!  I have tried entering the Product key multiple ways (Caps Lock on, Numbers entered on numeric key pad, Entering hyphens manually, In bootup mode as well as running under Win 2K), all to no avail.  The message is: "Setup cannot validate your product key.  Please review your product key and ensure that it has been entered correctly."

Please contact me via email, and help me to get a valid Product Key.  I'll forward the Product Key you sent to me, in what ever way you specify (in order to double check it).

    Thank you,
    Jeepster-Mike

Well, I used Nero Burning ROM 7.0 to burn the ISO Image on a DVD+RW and it worked fine. I didn't have any problems installing Windows Vista with the burned Media.

The Dled Iso image was burned to a DVD using both Nero and Roxio. Both worked fine on one machine, then trying it on another (newer) machine (both running Windows XP Pro) The newer machine gets this "This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification." This is the same disc that worked in the older machine. Whats the issue here. I researched it and can not find any official standing on it.

In my case it wasn't the burn that was bad, it was the image file. When I used microsoft's download manager the MD5 checksum didn't match, but using a external Free Download Manager it was fine. A bad image is also the cause behind strange install errors and the like.

I loaded Vista last Saturday and everything went well. The program loaded and came back up with the "Blue Screen of Death" I immediately retsored to the old system and that worked flawless as well. I have 5 harddrives and 4 gig of ram and was confident that the upgrade would work.  I this the main issue was the Promise Card handling 2 of my 5 drives. What would any suggest to assit me in making Vista complete the upgrade. The DVD-RW burn was no proble with Nero 7. I am not sure if this is really ready for primetime.

A bit off topic here, I know, but i have an install problem with Vista.
I get "error 80070001" while installing WinVista.

anyone familiar with this? prior to REinstalling i attempted to do a recovery, and a system restore to last known good config, to no avail.
so i figured since it's only been on the computer a few days to just go ahead and do a clean install (reformat, etc.).  but i keep getting that error.
it's the same DVD i used to install it in the first place, still in perfect condition, so....i don't know what to do. any ideas from the fountains of knowledge out there?

    thanks

i used NERO Burning ROM 6.0 for burning the iso. cancel all popups at start and select file > open, then select the iso-file.
select to "finalize the disc" and burn at 2x - not fast, not slower. everything works as long as you dont use the cheapest DVD+/-R/RWs you found.
i used a simple WinXP Prof. 32Bit (up-to-date!) with on NTFS, no file size problems, never...

btw. Nero 6 on Vista 32bit burns the vista 64bit iso perfectly :)

I'm having some major issues with this. I've never had any trouble burning DVDs, but this is my first attempt at the bootable variety.

I have Nero, but i'm doing something wrong. Whenever i put the disc in my computer it simply does the "reading" process infinately.

Could anyone give me a quick guide to how on earth i burn this disk properly? I'd really appreciate it.

I DL and burned the iso and ordered the install media from MS. WHen i tried to install the DL copy i received a install message saying ".....a required cd/dvd driver is missing.... insert the driver disk..bla bla bla.... I thought this might be due to a bad DL of the iso, so i waited for my official copy of vista form MS, I got the MS copy the other day and got the same message. As most of you know, it is impossible to get cd/dvd drivers these days so I don't have a disk. Does anybody have any suggestions?
