Taking a Look at InfoCenter

Fellow Microsoftie Marc Mercuri has developed a new application designed to harvest the best parts of RSS by helping users more handily manage their subscriptions and access that content. If you’re looking for a impressive new way of managing your video blogs or podcasts, this application might just be for you. "I thought there was a need for an application that leverages aspects of both the Windows OS and the web, with an engine powered by RSS," Marc explains. "Through RSS, we can empower our clients to consume not just the feeds that we provide – but also the ability to mix in those of third party vendors as well as their own internal corporate blogs and best practices."

You can head over to InformationCenter.TV to download InfoCenter’s August CTP to try it out yourself. Keep an eye out on Marc’s own blog Living in a World of Connected Systems for updates and changes as he moves forward with InfoCenter.

    This is great news.

Currently I'm using mostly Apple machines (G4 PowerBook and G5 desktop), but I own a Toshiba PC also.  I keep a current-events web journal, and one of the main advantages I've found in Safari/Tiger is the integrated RSS feature - it just makes it so much faster to read updates on dozens or even hundreds of weblogs.  And it's the main reason I'm still using Mac.

By early next year I expect to be moving back in the direction of MS/Windows, due to the persistent performance problems I've been experiencing on Mac.  I have been very pleased with the performance of WinXP and I'm looking forward to the release of Vista.  If you can do RSS the way the Apple guys have - only without the spinning beachballs and unexpected quits - I'll be one happy camper.
