Windows Vista CPP Closure Looms

Now that most of you have had the opportunity to request a PID for Windows Vista Beta 2 and download the image itself, it’s time to learn from you what works and what doesn’t work for you in this release. (You have requested your PID already, haven’t you?) We’re very proud of Beta 2 – justifiably, IMHO – and the advances that have been made since the major release preceding it, which most of you know of as build #5308. (BTW, beta 2 is build #5384.4.)

Do bear in mind that there have been other releases of Windows Vista since the CPP (Customer Preview Program, also known as “Beta 2”) was released in late May at WinHEC. These versions are not available to the general public and have not undergone the same rigorous testing passes as a beta-qualifying release. However, if you’re interested in participating as a beta tester, you just might be able to join the program and get your hands on these interstitial releases. So, depending on the version you’re using at the moment, some features and scenarios will be enabled and others may not, so as ever, caveat emptor and your mileage may vary (hey, it’s still a beta!). But whatever that may be , we’d love to hear from you about what your experience has been. What’s the good? The bad? The ugly? You can let us know in a couple of ways:

Windows Vista will be the product that you need it to be only if you make your voice heard.

Ok, so if it were possible to sign up for the next releases of Vista via Connect, I would more than gladly do so (as I use Connect to Beta-Test other MS Applications. However, it's not shown as an potion for me. Going to send me an invitation? :)

    Hi!
I would be glad to participate in the program...
However, I do not see Windows Vista option in the Connect site.
Is a special invite necessary for participating?
If so, can I get an invite?

    Thanks,

Beta two is pretty good for me. One show stopper bug is the SPI problem, where 98% of all internet traffic does not work on beta 2 unless I disable my hardware firewall completly.

It's great the they decided to cap the number of users downloading vista since untech'd will think that it's just 'another buggy product' not understanding the term beta (due to Google being 'beta' for years).

Problem is that I got a PID, was going to install and noticed that I can't find it...  And it seems that they decided to take out the entire login area of the site so that you can't look up the pid either!

Anyone happen to know a place to lookup your pid at?

    Joshua Hudson,

What SPI issue are you referring to?  Certainly Windows Vista 2 can use Internet traffic without shutting down the firewall.

    Hey guys,

I'm also interested in trying the Windows Vista beta builds that are not released to the public. I'm currently in the Customer Preview Program and I've been reporting many bugs I find when trying out and experimenting different features in Windows Vista. Overall, Windows Vista has improved alot since the previous Windows. The biggest change I found in Windows Vista is the new user interface. It's very clean, sleek and sharp. I really like it!

I would like to ask if I can receive an invitation to try the newer Windows Vista beta builds in Connect. I would like to help Microsoft not only to satisfy me, but everyone who uses it to remember, this is the best operating system ever!

I have been watching Longhorn develop into Vista for years. I really wanted to test Vista, to submit feedback etc etc. But Microsoft have not been easy with me. I just found your blog (oh, btw I am now a proud Windows Vista Beta 2 tester), and I thank you for making things easy.
I would love to apply to join the Vista Beta though Microsoft Connect.
I feel privlaged to even have the offer there! I was really excited when I installed Vista. And I would love to feel that again by helping you guys bring out a truly powerful and stable operating system.
My email is: soulthirst@gmail.com. Thank you :)

Ah... I forgot to include my email address: breakdown.720@gmail.com. I'll thank you very much if you send the invitation. Please remember that I will report every single problem I see with Windows Vista beta.
