Add subtitles or captions to video content
On the Microsoft Community Training platform, you can add subtitles or captions to the video lessons for a course to make your course content more accessible and create an inclusive learning environments. The captions are used to help learners read while they watch and overcome difficulties (if any) in understanding the language of the voice over.
The subtitle or caption file is required to be in VTT format. In case you want to learn more about the VTT standard, please read it here.
In this article, you will learn more about how to add subtitles for a video content on the Microsoft Community Training platform.
Steps to upload a subtitle or caption file to a video lesson
Add the video content for a lesson. See detailed steps on how to add content to a course.
Below the Upload button, you can see the Add Subtitle button. Click on + Add Subtitle button.
Next click on Select a language menu and choose the language for which you want to add the subtitles.
Next click on the Select Subtitle File button to add subtitle file (.vtt format).
Note
In case subtitle files are not in VTT format, then use a suitable software to convert the subtitle files. For e.g. here is the web application available to convert subtitles from SRT to VTT format.
Click on Done to save the newly added subtitle file for the video.
Repeat Step 2 to 5 to add subtitles in additional languages.
Steps to view subtitles or captions
Once the subtitles or captions are added to the video lessons, it can be viewed by learners in the language of their choice while playing the video as explained below:
On the video player, Click on Subtitle/Captions icon.
On the pop-up menu, select the subtitle language
Captions will be seen on the video in the language that you select
