Advertising API product allows developers to manage LinkedIn’s campaign management platform on behalf of their clients through APIs. The set of APIs offered by this products maps to all the features that are part of the campaign management UI tool. The features includes creation and management of ads account, campaign groups, campaigns, creatives, ad type and analytics.
With the access to the APIs offered by the Advertising API program, developers are able to create and manage their Ad Accounts through the APIs only with no dependency on the campaign manager UI. The API calls to any of the APIs in the Advertising API are successful only if they are called with the correct scopes/permissions that are assigned to the app after going through the vetting process. Once the developer application has the right set of permissions, all the following features of the Advertising Account can be unlocked by passing the identifiers obtained in the response from a level above in the hierarchy.
AdAccounts
LinkedIn enables you to create Ad Accounts for your organization's advertising campaigns. An Ad Account can have a maximum of 5,000 campaigns and 15,000 creatives. To create and manage ad campaigns, you must have an Enterprise or Business Ad Account with one authenticated user assigned as the account administrator.
Account Users
The Ad Account Users API enables advertisers to manage ad account user access. Ad account users are members who have ad account permissions in Campaign Manager. Partners can manage what roles a user has in order to more finely control access.
Campaign Groups
Campaign groups provide advertisers a way to manage status, budget, and performance across multiple related campaigns. Whenever an Ad Account is created, a new campaign group is automatically created for it. A campaign group can contain a variety of campaign types. There is no limit to the number of campaign groups per advertiser account. Note that LinkedIn imposes a limit of 5,000 campaigns per advertiser account and 2,000 campaigns per non-default campaign group.
Campaigns
Campaigns define the ad schedule and budget (daily/total.) The campaign can be bound to a specific start and end date or run continuously until the budget is spent. Campaigns can be targeted for a specific selection of members (target audience) based on categories such as job title, job function, seniority, etc.
Creatives
The Creatives API contains all the data and information for visually rendering an ad. There are several types of Ad Creatives that you can associate with campaigns including:
- Video Ads
- Message Ads
- Jobs Ad
- Text Ad
- Image Ad
- Follower Ads
- Carousel Ad
- Article Ad
- Spotlight Ads
- Conversation Ads
