Customizing the PIM User Experience

4/8/2010

This section contains details that explain how you can tailor the Outlook Mobile user interface to add context-sensitive options that connect your application with Outlook Mobile, or to create custom Home Screen plug-ins that open Outlook Mobile applications directly into their input forms, or to meet your particular branding requirements.

  • Customizing the PIM User Experience by Using Source Providers
Source Providers are custom functions (DLLs) that you can create and implement, that are part of a mechanism that supports "Per-Provider Customization" of the PIM experience on Windows Mobile devices. They allow you to provide a customized Summary tab for associated Contact items when the user opens them from the Contact list view, provide a custom icon for associated Contact items when they appear in the Contact list view, and display Appointment items with alternate background colors in the Agenda and Day views.
  • Creating Custom Plug-ins for Launching Outlook Mobile Applications
Windows Mobile includes a set of functions that you can use to create custom Windows Classic Home screen (for Windows Mobile Professional and Windows Mobile Classic) and Home screen (for Windows Mobile Standard) plug-ins that launch two of the Outlook Mobile applications (Calendar and Contacts) directly into their input forms.
  • ** Integrating Applications with Outlook Mobile
You can use the POOM APIs to create custom applications that integrate with Outlook Mobile. You can add commands to the Tools menus of the Calendar, Tasks, and Contacts applications, and you can use the POOM APIs to manipulate their associated items and the information that they contain.**
