Writing Games for Windows Mobile Devices
4/19/2010
Windows Mobile supports all the technologies you need to create first-class games, but by necessity, it introduces additional challenges as well.
Every year, hardware manufacturers introduce increasingly sophisticated hardware, such as acceleration for 2-D and 3-D graphics. Developers create increasingly better games to take advantage of this power, and users of Windows Mobile devices increasingly think of their devices as part-time, portable gaming platforms as well as full-time communications platforms.
That combination creates both opportunities and challenges for the game developer:
- The opportunity is to create a game that is more compelling because it uses the communication features of the platform.
- The challenge is to create a game that does not make the device less effective as a communication tool. The device is still, first and foremost, a phone, and the game should never intrude on the communications experience.
The topics in this section describe how to anticipate the opportunities and overcome and challenges. You can find additional information and interact with other Windows Mobile game developers at this Microsoft Web site.
