How to Configure an SMTP Server for Direct Mailer

The following steps explain how to configure a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server to act as a relay server for the rest of your Commerce Server 2009 system.

To configure an SMTP server for Direct Mailer

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

  2. In Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, expand the server name, right-click Default SMTP Virtual Server, and then click Properties.

  3. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties dialog box, on the Access tab, in the Relay restrictions section, click Relay.

  4. In the Relay Restrictions dialog box, click Add.

  5. In the Computer dialog box, click Group of computers, and then in the Subnet Address box, type the Subnet address for the SMTP server. In the Subnet mask box, type the Subnet mask address for the SMTP server, and then click OK.

  6. In the Relay Restrictions dialog box, click OK.

  7. In the Default SMTP Virtual Server Properties dialog box, click OK.

    The SMTP server is configured for use by Direct Mailer.
