How to Create and Configure CSS Authentication Accounts

This topic provides steps for creating Commerce Server Staging (CSS) authentication accounts and assigning them the necessary permissions to administer CSS. You can create the following types of accounts:

  • Management authentication accounts

  • Destination-level authentication accounts

  • Project-level authentication accounts

  • Default (global) authentication accounts

Follow these steps to create and configure a CSS authentication account as either a local Windows account or a domain account.

To create and configure a CSS authentication account as a local Windows account

  1. Create the CSS authentication account as a local account on the CSS server for which the account must be active. For information about how to create a Windows local accounts, see How to Create a Local Account.

  2. Add the CSS authentication account to one of the CSS security groups:

    • Add management authentication accounts to either the CSS Administrators or CSS Operators group.

    • Add destination-level, project-level, and default (global) authentication accounts to either the CSS Administrators or CSS operators group.

  3. If you use the account to replicate business data, log on to the destination SQL database server that contains the business data to be replicated. Grant database access permissions to the account. For information about how to grant database access permissions, see What Database Access Permissions Must You Grant to CSS Authentication Accounts?

To create and configure a CSS authentication account as a domain account

  1. Create the CSS authentication account as a domain account. For information about how to create a domain account, see How to Create a Domain Account in Active Directory.

  2. Add the CSS authentication domain account to one of the CSS security groups:

    • Add management authentication accounts to either the CSS Administrators or CSS Operators group.

    • Add destination-level, project-level, and default (global) authentication accounts to either the CSS Administrators or CSS Operators group.

  3. If you use the CSS authentication account to replicate business data, log on to the source or destination SQL database server that contains the business data to be replicated.
