How to Create a Shipping Method

You create new shipping methods by using the Shipping Methods screens in the Customer and Orders Manager. You can create shipping methods in several different languages. After you create a new shipping method, you must refresh the site cache before the shipping method will appear on the Web site.

To create a shipping method

  1. Click Start, point to Microsoft Commerce Server 2007 , and then click Customer and Orders Manager.

  2. In Commerce Server Customer and Orders Manager, in the Views pane, click Shipping Methods.

  3. In the Tasks pane, click Create New Shipping Method.

  4. In the Create New Shipping Method screen, on the Properties tab, do the following:

    Use this

    To do this

    Enabled

    Select Yes to activate the shipping method or No to deactivate the shipping method from the drop-down list.

    Enabled indicates that the shipping method will display on the site as a shipping option.

    Configured mode

    Select a mode from the drop-down list by which to configure the shipping charges.

    Shipping cost calculator

    Type the ProgID of the pipeline component.

    See your site developer for the ProgID of the pipeline component.

    Created date

    View the system-assigned date when you created the shipping method.

    You cannot edit this box.

    Last modified

    View the system-assigned date when you last modified the shipping method.

    You cannot edit this box.

    Group ID

    View the GUID assigned by the system to group same shipping methods in different languages.

    You cannot edit this box.

    Add

    Click to define the shipping method in another language.

    Delete

    Click to delete the selected language fro this shipping method definition.

    Default Language

    Select this check box to specify this language as the default language.

    Name

    Type the friendly name of the shipping method in this language.

    Description

    Type a description of this shipping method in the language selected.

  5. On the Charges Table tab, do the following.

    Limit (up to)

    Type the maximum limit to which this shipping rate applies.

    Shipping Rate

    Type the shipping rate.

    Add

    Click to apply a Limit and ShippingRate to the selected shipping method.

    Delete

    Click to delete the selected Limit and Shipping Rate.

  6. Click Save and Close on the toolbar to save the new shipping method.

To create a shipping method that uses a different language

  1. Follow the steps to create a shipping method that were discussed earlier.

  2. In the Shipping Method pane, do the following.

    Use this

    To do this

    Default Language

    Select this check box to specify this language as the default language.

    Language

    Select the language to use for this shipping method from the drop-down list.

    Name

    Type the friendly name of the shipping method in this language.

    Description

    Type a description of this shipping method in the language selected.

  3. Click Save and Close on the toolbar to save the new shipping method.

To refresh the site cache

  1. In Customer and Orders Manager, in the Views pane, click Shipping Methods.

  2. In the Tasks pane, click Refresh Site Cache.
