How to: Adjust Values of Fixed Assets

Indexation is used to adjust values for general changes in price. You can use the Index Fixed Assets batch job to calculate the replacement costs of fixed assets.

To use this feature, you must activate the Allow Indexation field in the depreciation book.

To adjust values of fixed assets

  1. In the Search box, enter Index Fixed Assets, and then choose the related link.

  2. On the Options FastTab, fill in the fields.

If automatic numbering is used, leave the Document No. field blank. The journal that you transfer to must be empty and have a number series set up for it. Otherwise, enter a document number. All lines are then given the same number in the journal. You must use a template and a batch without a specified number series.

  3. On the Fixed Asset FastTab, set a filter to select the fixed assets that you want to index.

  4. Choose the OK button.

  5. The lines are created in a journal. The journal template and batch that are used are determined according to how you set up the FA Journal Setup window. This window is set up from the depreciation book card.

  6. In the Search box, enter FA G/L Journals or FA Journals, and then choose the related link.

The Index Entry field should be selected. Check the created entries, and post them to the ledgers.

    Important

This field is available in the FA Ledger Entries window, but it is not shown by default. For more information, see Customizing Role Center and Pages.

  7. Select the journal that you want to adjust.

  8. On the Navigate tab, in the Fixed Asset group, choose Ledger Entries.

  9. The Index Entry field should be selected. Check the created entries, and post them to the ledgers.

    Tip

If the index figures are for simulation purposes only, you can create a special depreciation book to store them in. Then these entries will not affect any of the other depreciation books. You can also index manually by entering a journal line. Select the Index Entry field to mark your entries. This will make indexed entries recognizable. If you want to correct an indexation error, you can do so by using the Cancel FA Ledger Entries function on the Actions tab, and then running the Index Fixed Assets batch job again.
