Align Options
The settings grouped as Align Options are used in conjunction with the Align to Beat, Align to Barline, and Align to Segment Performance Boundary Options. When one of these boundaries is selected, the normal start point of the segment is aligned to a rhythmical boundary in the past. As a result, the segment can only start playing at some point after its normal start point. The Align Options selection specifies the next boundary at which the segment can start playing. This setting is used only if no Enter Switch Point is present in the part of the segment that lies in the future.
For example, suppose that two segments, A and B, have the same time signature. Segment A is playing as the primary segment. The performance boundary for segment B is Align to Measure. Now B is cued as a secondary segment at a point halfway through a measure in Segment A. The Align to Measure setting ensures that the start point of B is aligned with the previous measure boundary in A, so that the two segments will be in time with one another when B starts playing. If B has no Enter Switch Points and the align option for B is on any Beat, B starts playing on the first available full beat.
The following table shows the effect of the various options.
Align Option | Effect |
at any Time | The segment plays as soon as possible. |
on any Grid | The segment plays at the next grid division. |
on any Beat | The segment plays at the next beat. |
on any Barline | The segment plays at the next measure. |
