Capturing MIDI Data
You can use an external MIDI device, such as a MIDI keyboard or wind controller, to add notes to an instrument part in a pattern or a sequence track. Your MIDI device must be connected to a sound card on your computer, and the device must be selected in the MIDI/Performance Options Dialog Box.
As you record from a MIDI device, you can hear audible MIDI feedback using the instrument settings in the PChannel assigned to the part or track that you are recording into.
Note To eliminate confusion caused by delays in the audible MIDI feedback, no MIDI feedback is provided when recording in real time to a high-latency output port. When you record to a style pattern, the new notes are played as audible notes only when the pattern loops during the recording period.
MIDI data can be captured in two ways:
-
Notes are entered using the same default length for each note, and the recording advances by the length of one note each time you enter a new note.
-
A fixed tempo is applied as you enter notes. The length of the notes is recorded as you play and is determined by how long you hold down the keys on the MIDI device.
