Lyric Properties

Each unit of text entered in the lyric track has properties similar to those displayed in the following Properties Window:

Lyric Properties window

This window contains the following settings:

  • Lyric

Text. The text is shown in the lyric track, but may appear truncated if another lyric follows it. You can always view the full text by opening this Properties window.

  • Start Time

Point at which the entire text in the Lyric box is played.

  • Belongs To

Bar and beat with which the lyric is logically associated. See Belongs to Beat.

  • Timing

Timing settings are specifically for use when lyrics are played in an application. When a segment containing a lyric track is being played, each lyric is put in a message structure marked with a time stamp equivalent to the Start Time you defined for the lyric. This message is then delivered to application-defined tools. The Timing option determines how quickly the message is delivered. In most cases, select Quick Response to ensure timely delivery to tools.

    Option Effect
Quick Response As fast as possible. The message is processed as soon as it is sent, regardless of its time stamp. By default, lyric notifications are sent approximately 1000 milliseconds earlier than their time stamp.
Before Time Stamp The message is processed just before its time stamp, allowing for port latency.
At Time Stamp The message is processed exactly at the time stamp.

Note The Message Window always displays lyrics using the Before Time Stamp setting, regardless of the Timing option set for the lyric.
