Mod Low Frequency Oscillator

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

The Mod low frequency oscillator (LFO) is used to periodically vary the pitch and amplitude of the waveform to produce vibrato and tremolo. Effective use of the LFO provides an extra dimension of interest to what is otherwise a constant tone.

The following settings are available in the Instrument Articulation or Region Articulation area of the DLS Designer Window when the Mod LFO button is selected:

  • Frequency

Move the Frequency slider to set the cycles per second at which you want the pitch and/or amplitude to modulate.

  • Delay

Move the Delay slider to set the length of time to pass before modulation begins.

  • Volume Range

Move the Vol Range slider to set the degree to which the amplitude of the wave is modulated.

  • Pitch Range

Move the Pitch Range slider to set the degree to which the frequency of the wave is modulated.

  • MW to Volume

Effect of mod wheel on volume. The value set by the MW to Vol slider indicates the MIDI mod wheel message to translate to tremolo, using the values for Frequency and Delay. If you set this value to zero, MIDI mod wheel messages do not generate tremolo.

  • MW to Pitch

Effect of mod wheel on pitch. The value set by the MW to Pitch slider indicates the MIDI mod wheel message to translate to vibrato, using the values for Frequency and Delay. If you set this value to zero, MIDI mod wheel messages do not generate vibrato.

  • Chan. Press. to Gain

Effect of channel pressure (mono after touch) on volume.

  • Chan. Press. to Pitch

Effect of channel pressure on pitch.

  • Chan. Press. to Fc

Effect of channel pressure on filter cutoff.
