Mute Track

Windows Media Encoder SDK banner art

The mute track is used to silence individualPerformance Channels (PChannels) and to remap output from one PChannel to another.

When a PChannel is muted, all events that would ordinarily affect the PChannel are ignored. This includes notes and waves as well as band changes.

When a PChannel is remapped, all events from the sequence, style, and band tracks are redirected to the new PChannel, except for instrument patch changes. For example, suppose PChannel 1 has been remapped to PChannel 99. All notes in a part set to play on PChannel 1 are now played on PChannel 99, using the instrument assigned to that channel. However, if a band change causes PChannel 1 to be played on a different instrument, that change still affects only PChannel 1, not PChannel 99.

In the following figure, the mute track contains mute symbols (X) in various measures and beats of PChannels 1, 2, 3, and 4. PChannel 1 is muted during the entire segment. In addition, PChannels 2, 3, and 4 are reassigned as the segment plays; for example, PChannel 2 is reassigned to PChannel 6 after the first two beats.

The Mute list initially contains only PChannels 1 through 16. To modify the list, right-click the track and select Add/Remove PChannels on the shortcut menu. The Add/Remove PChannels Dialog Box is displayed.
