Pitfalls of Embedded Audiopaths
When the Play on new instance of embedded audiopath option in the Segment Properties window is selected, a temporary instance of the audiopath is created only when the segment plays. The audiopath is deactivated and the instance destroyed immediately after playback.
When a segment stops, there is occasionally ring out time for audio effects used in its audiopaths. This is the period when sound from an audio effect continues after the segment itself has stopped. For example, a reverb or echo effect may ring long after the segment's last note is finished. When an embedded audiopath is deactivated, this can cause the ring out effect to be clipped.
Use one of the following alternatives to avoid clipping of ring out:
- For a segment that is always played to completion, add extra measures to the end of the segment to ensure that ring out is finished. Note that if you intend to transition to other content right after the last note in the segment, adding extra measures will cause the transition to occur later.
- Do not use the Play on new instance of embedded audiopath option, and then tell the developer that you want to play the segment on its embedded audiopath. A developer can programmatically create an instance of the audiopath, and control when this instance of audiopath is deactivated, waiting until the segment has completed and any ring out is finished.
